Teaching Excellence Symposium 2019
Inspiration, Innovation, & Impact
We cordially invite you to participate in the Teaching Excellence Symposium to be held in the Great Hall on March 29, 2019.
Theme: Stories of Teaching Inspiration
What inspiring things do you do as an educator that no one else knows about? The symposium is an opportunity to share your stories of teaching excellence, inspiration, innovation, and impact.
Keynote Presentation: "3 Doors" - Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Presented by Dr. John Matsui of UC Berkeley. A primary goal of Dr. Matsui's work is to "level the playing field" for individuals who, like himself, do not fit the historical profile of success and to help them become leaders in their future careers. Please join us to hear Dr. Matsui's experiences working with minoritized students and his efforts to eliminate opportunity gaps.
Symposium and Proposal Formats
Poster Presentation - Open session highlighting inspiring, innovative, and/or impactful work around teaching and learning practice, research, and vision.
Lightning Talk - Dynamic five-minute presentation focused on one idea, story, or practice. For the audience, the lightning talk is an opportunity to find inspiration. For those giving a lightning talk, it is a thought seed that attracts people to a follow-up roundtable that you will host. Lightning Talk Tips
Roundtable (30-minute) - A facilitated conversation on a wide range of teaching and learning topics. It is an opportunity to dive a little deeper into topics to envision new ideas, approaches, and actions.
NOTE: Proposals are accepted for lighting talks and/or roundtable discussions.
We hope that sessions addressing this theme will consider the questions:
What inspires you as an educator?
What are some ways that you inspire students to think differently?
Where do you see examples of inspired student learning in practice?
