CSU Symposium on University Teaching/PolyTeach

Friday, April 13, 2018 - 8:00am to Saturday, April 14, 2018 - 5:00pm
Location:
Cal Poly, Pomona campus

All CSU faculty and academic staff are cordially invited to attend the CSU Symposium on University Teaching/PolyTeach joint conference on April 13 & 14, 2018.  This is the third time that Cal Poly Pomona has hosted the CSU Symposium and we are thrilled to have it back!  It’s especially terrific to have a joint event with Cal Poly Pomona’s own PolyTeach event, which focuses on innovative uses of technology to support student learning.

The conference theme is “Productive Disruption” -- what are we doing in our classrooms or with our students that’s out of the ordinary and helps them think more deeply, achieve more ambitiously, succeed more forthrightly?  The agenda includes plenty of time for networking and collegial conversation among faculty from around the CSU, plus these highlights and more:

Friday April 13:

  • Robert Talbert, Grand Valley State University – 3-hr hands-on workshop “Flipping the Classroom”
  • Deb Pires, UCLA – 2-hr hands-on workshop “Active Learning with iClicker”
  • Janine Kremling, CSU San Bernardino – Plenary “Overcoming Resistance to Productive Disruption – What We’re Learning from Our Students
  • Mixer & Reception

Saturday April 14:

  • Faculty presentations – concurrent oral sessions plus breakfast with faculty poster presentation session & poster plenary discussion
  • Uri Treisman, UT Austin Professor of Mathematics & MacArthur Foundation Fellow – Plenary Keynote
    • Uri will also have a morning breakout session for Math & STEM faculty
  • Networking lunch

The conference is a terrific value for a high-quality opportunity ($55 plus small handling fee for both days).
