Spring 2021 Faculty Inclusivity Conference

March 3-4, 2021

The purpose of this Inclusivity Conference is to center the needs of faculty of color at Cal Poly Humboldt. Faculty of color bring important and diverse perspectives to the university, enriching the learning experience for all our students, strengthening the scholarship of the university, and making our institution a better place to work for all of us. At the same time, they grapple with multiple and intersecting challenges due to structural barriers to their thriving and success at Cal Poly Humboldt. Over two days, faculty at Cal Poly Humboldt are invited to participate in a series of open conversations about what the university needs to do to help faculty of color succeed, thrive, and feel safe at Cal Poly Humboldt. Please join colleagues in roundtable discussions on March 3rd and 4th.

Structural Racism, and Institutional Racism in the Academy

Dr. Margo Okazawa-Rey, San Francisco State University

Most universities have done very little to acknowledge and dismantle structural and institutional racism that negatively impacts the experience of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) faculty in the academy. This roundtable discussion focuses on experiences of faculty of color at Cal Poly Humboldt, and is intended to inform actions and policies that will move us forward to a more racially just and equitable university.

Safety and Faculty of Color

Simone Aloisio, Academic Personnel Services
Melissa Meiris, Stepping Stone Diversity Consulting

Underrepresented faculty are disproportionately targeted with threats and harassment from individuals and groups from inside and outside the University. Sometimes these threats are based on the content of the faculty member’s teaching, scholarship, or service.  This roundtable discussion will focus on supporting faculty targeted in these situations.
