Video Transcript: Teaching like a Jazz Musician

Dr. James Woglom, Art Department

All right, how do I take this actual methodology that we've talked about and implement it in place, and make it work?

I love that idea that there's an art form in that interrelationship of people. That thinking about how we care about each other and how we develop curriculum for each other is, in and of itself, sort of this really interesting performative act.

It's like jazz improvization. You're taking a structure that you've developed and then, you know, bringing it to a bunch of people and saying: What would make this more interesting? What makes this part more beautiful? What do I need to alter in my own praxis that will meet the needs of a different person within that construct?

It's literally all I think about all day.
