Dave Jannetta: Seamless and Functional Design

Pivoting

The Pivot to Online Learning and Teaching experience was extremely beneficial in many ways. It methodically led me through a number of exercises that helped me plan and implement all levels of course design from student activities through assessment. Although I did not teach any classes fully online, I used every aspect of what I created through Pivot for my course, "Scene Analysis and Production" in Spring 2022.

For the final showcase I submitted my Canvas Course homepage. In the end what I used was a modified version of that submission but the underlying principles that went into the design are all present. The course forced me to ask questions about how students engage with Canvas as a tool and gave me the opportunity to simplify the way that content is presented so that students can intuitively access the material they need, when they need it.

Because Canvas is, and will be, a vital component to the learning experience going forward I will continue to iterate the UI/UX so it is as seamless and functional as possible for any student taking one of my classes.
