CSU Academic Technology Services is offering FREE training courses as a professional development opportunity for faculty and lecturers. The courses below include learning how to design and teach blended-online courses, review and improve existing blended-online courses, and apply the QLT Instrument or QM Rubric to gauge course quality and provide effective course enhancement feedback to others.

Quality Assurance Course Descriptions

QLT1-INTRO: Introduction to Teaching Online Using QLT: Introduction to the pedagogies and strategies of teaching in blended-online formats, weaving the 10 sections of the QLT instrument throughout. Intended for anyone who is interested in teaching a blended or online course. 

QLT-ADV: Advanced QLT Course in Teaching Online (NEW): Advanced course in creating a course & module structure that is in alignment with course objectives, incorporates social presence, equity-minded strategies, active learning pedagogy, and formative assessments.  Participants will complete a QLT Core-24 self review on their own course for reflection to guide them as they progress through the course and assist in the development of their final project. The project will include one fully developed module revised during the course. Prerequisite: completion of Introduction to Teaching Online Using QLT or campus equivalent.  Note: having a partially or fully developed online course is required prior to registration. 

QLT2-REVIEWER: Reviewing Courses Using the QLT Instrument: Provides an in-depth experience with the CSU QLT instrument and how to use the objectives to support reviewing blended-online courses. Participants engage in hands-on experiences using QLT objectives to review a sample course, learn how to write helpful recommendations, and discuss setting up a campus peer-review process. 

QM APPQMR: Applying the QM Rubric:  Overview of Quality Matters rubric and annotations, research underlying the QM rubric, and process for evaluating the quality of online course design. Participants engage in hands-on experiences applying the QM standards to a sample course, writing helpful recommendations, and ensuring alignment between objectives, assessments, materials, activities, and tools.

QM DYOC: Design Your Online Course (NEW):  Explores the QM Rubric and provides a framework to design an online course. Participants explore the QM Rubric, focusing on learning objectives and overall course alignment. Participants will create a plan for organizing and developing their course and align one module for development. 

QM IYOC: Improving Your Online Course: Explores the QM Rubric and provides a framework to improve the quality of online and blended courses. Participants use the QM Rubric to review their own courses and develop a course improvement plan. The content is based on the 23 "essential" QM standards. Note: having a partially or fully developed online course is required prior to registration.
