Faculty Learning Community on Integrating Sustainability

Interested in integrating sustainability into your curriculum but not sure where to begin? Have you heard about the new Equity and Social Justice/Sustainability and Environmental Awareness institutional learning outcomes (ILOs 1 and 2) and not sure how you might teach to them? Or, do you already have some sustainability content in your courses but you are interested in going further?
By participating in the 2020 Faculty Learning Community (FLC) on Integrating Sustainability, faculty will explore and reflect on a variety of strategies and practices applicable to all disciplines and programs. We will interact with an interdisciplinary group of colleagues to develop, implement, assess, and share the results of our work. Along the way, we will:
Acquire skills and knowledge in sustainability through collaborative study, expertise exchange, and professional dialogue
Explore sustainability resources from the campus to the community and beyond
Participate in a variety of instructional strategies to foster sustainability teaching

Commitments
Participate in five meetings in Spring 2020
Develop a unit, module or activity on sustainability or a sustainability challenge for your course or create a poster to present at the Teaching Excellence Symposium, interview sustainability practitioner, write up case study, or other agreed-upon deliverable
Share results of integrating sustainability in your teaching
Participate in the FLC pre- and post-survey
Benefits
A small stipend upon completion of assigned deliverables and attendance of all meetings. The exact amount will be determined once the number of participants is finalized
Earn a sustainability designation for your course, which will appear in the course catalog
Access to sustainability practitioners on and off-campus
Receive a participation letter for your file
